Apple will not launch the iPad 3 in 2011, though it is working on a next-generation iPad that will have a better screen resolution than the iPad 2.
There is a possibility that it could even have a Retina display similar to the iPhone 4's, a report in Digitimes claims. It was suggested that the iPad 3 would have a 2048x1536 display - four times that of the iPad 2 - back in January, by analyst firm IDC.
The new report suggests that the iPad 3 could have a much higher resolution than the current model and perhaps use AMOLED (active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) technology, which would make it very power efficient.
However, Digitimes points out that the AMOLED market is largely dominated by Samsung, a key rival in the tablet area. This could prevent a move to the technology as it wouldn't make sense to put itself at Samsung's mercy in this way, where it could effectively dictate Apple's production schedules.
Rumors dating back to February, started by Daring Fireball's John Gruber, had suggested that the iPad 3 would launch this year, soon after the launch of the iPad 2, perhaps under the name iPad 2 Pro or iPad 2.5.
However, Digitimes' report would appear to squash this theory, stating: "The sources pointed out that they have not yet received any notice for next generation iPad products and do not believe iPad 2 is a transitional product."
hmmmz.. jadi mau beli!!! :)
